song seven: tell me all about it!

at long last, we finally got our recording software up and running this week (we've been making due with GarageBand since we started) and decided to revive an old song Noah started recording for Moses for his first birthday. my how times flies... Moses turns six on tuesday!

Moses. wow, where do i start? he's such a special little guy... so sweet and tenderhearted, so brilliant and creative, and so in love with Jesus. yesterday a girl recognized Moses and I (Julie Jane) and excitedly asked, "do you remember me?!” Moses and i had prayed for her at the healing rooms on august 26. while i prayed, Moses tickled her sweetly (he doesn’t normally tickle adults, nor strangers, nor would i normally permit him to do so). she was angry at God because she’d just said goodbye to her mom to come out to school here in Redding… her mom was diagnosed with Parkinson’s years ago and it had gotten bad enough that she thought she had actually just said her final goodbye. she said when Moses tickled her face, she felt God’s love and felt something shift inside of her. we released hope and peace over her, and prayed for her mom as well, declaring that nothing is lost! a few days later, our new friend called her mom, who said she’d been feeling good since the day we prayed. fast forward seven weeks. our new friend calls her mom and her voice sounds normal again… and even though she’d been housebound, she’d just spent 3 hours out shopping and still felt good, and she hasn’t had a single tremor since the day we prayed! Jesus is so good... he’s so willing and he’s so able! it’s amazing to see the Lord using our little guy to touch people’s lives and bring healing and hope. it’s incredible to see him encountering God’s love for himself, and sharing that love with others.

our little guy was created for a big purpose and it is no small thing to be his Mama. some of you will know of a guy named Shawn Bolz — when Moses was a year and nine months, Shawn (who we'd never heard of or met before that night) picked Moses out of a crowd and said he "saw a harp in his hands” [if you don’t already know, Noah actually built harps in Seattle at the time] and said he said he saw "a leadership gift in music, and a songwriting gift" on Moses, and that he was "a deep, deep well... a deep soul" and that he'd "be writing and journaling at a really very young age" [Moses taught himself to read at four years, two months — and figured out he could type anything he wanted on the ipad at four years, four months, and he would write pages and pages for literally two, three, and four hours a day!] Shawn also said there was "an assignment on his life to restore something like tabernacle worship... what a gift: a family purpose on your life.” so as you listen to our songs each week, and as you hear Moses growing and making music together with us, you're in on the secret now... that this is more than just a fundraising campaign, it's an intentional effort to more firmly establish a culture of creativity in our home and in Moses' life. we're making space in our oh so busy lives to prioritize and normalize the art of following inspiration, learning how to express himself creatively and collaborate, exploring sounds and new ideas, and also capturing what he's been given and what he's created in a way that he can give it away! this is a grand experiment, and turning out to be a much bigger investment than we'd anticipated, but we are all loving it. so sit back and enjoy Moses' first time on the mic, when he was just a few months old!

in other news, two weeks ago we moved Moses from first back to kindergarten. we’d skipped K because he’s a little smarty pants — but he ended up being in a first/second split class and it turns out a five year old hanging with a bunch of seven and eight years olds is just not as much fun as it sounds. he misses his two favorite friends in first (both girls!) but he is LOVING kindergarten and his new teacher, and he’s back with his best buddies from preschool now, so all is right with the world. there has been a real shift in our home these last two weeks, and it feels like we have our little buddy back again! we are so excited for this new season for Moses — to watch him grow, to cheer him on, and to play and create together. if you have any little words of encouragement for the birthday boy, feel free to send them our way...

tell me all about it

what do you think about that, Moses
what do you think about that, my friend
what do you think about that, Moses
what do you think about that, my son

i hear ya talkin to your mama
i hear ya talkin to your mama
so tell me, tell me, tell me
tell me, tell me, tell me...

you've got that joy, joy, joy
little boy, boy, boy
and i see it from your head down to your toes
and when you smile so wide
with those big, bright eyes
i can only hope and wonder what's inside

what do you think about that, Moses...

i wanna hear what's on your mind
i wanna hear what's on your mind
so tell me, tell me, tell me
tell me, tell me, tell me...

you've got that joy, joy, joy
little boy, boy, boy
and you feel it from your head down to your toes
and when you smile so wide
with those big, bright eyes
i can only hope and wonder what's inside

i watch you grow, grow, grow
and i know, know, know
that there's nothin i can do to hold back time
no matter what your age
no matter what your size
remember always and forever you'll be mine
