song five: a family feeling

so Noah and i are both big dreamers... we often have dreams that feel very significant, remain vivid for many months and even years after, give us hope and direction, and many which have literally come true. we call them God-dreams because we feel that God is speaking to us in the night. between the two of us, we have received really creative solutions to major seemingly unsolvable problems (like burn the house down and start over sized problems), we have had dreams where we were given large sums of money only to be surprised to receive those same sums the following day (this has happened multiple times), and we have had dreams where people were praying for us and in our dreams we experienced freedom and healing and woke up with a clear sense that something very real had taken place. often these days Noah will have dreams of melodies which he will later turn into songs, and over the years he has had many dreams where he wrote a song about the story which unfolded in his dream. Noah is so faithful to do whatever it takes to capture these gifts when they come, and as Moses has begun having dreams that sound more and more like God dreams we have been really good about recording them. on September 20 Moses awoke from a dream...

"So we lived at this very tiny house like the Lego house I built... and when I was walking alone in the woods a monster slashed the top of our house... and you (Mama) moved out... but I think were really just grocery shopping... so then Baba was going for a sad walk in the woods with his hands in his pockets... and then he found me and we walked down to our house and when we were walking down he told me stories of the slashing monster...

…and then when we got to the house and went inside he told me that… Baba told me that he was sad that he thought that Mama moved out and then we both cried together and then Baba suddenly looked up and he saw… he saw Mama moving in the gate and then I saw her too… then you were like… you stood still and you were like “oh Momo!” and then we ran to each other and Mama scooped me up in her arms and we snuggled up and then I woke up and I cried for joy… and there was even music in my dream…"

then he sang the melody for me and described the feelings it gave him and the things he sensed even though he could not see them. it was pretty incredible actually...

his dream really surprised me and also deeply saddened me. lest you think our family is falling apart, let me just say that i love my little family and i’m certainly not leaving them!!! honestly though, we are very much at a crossroads right now of do we press in and stay the course, or do we just abandon ship and go home because it sounds so simple and easy compared to the price we are paying to be here, which is so very great in so many ways. a few days prior to Momo's dream, i had a dream i was writing a letter to our supporters to tell them our family was going to Iraq for Christmas... and i reeeeally wanted to go! and i don't just mean i wanted to go in my dream. we know we are called to the nations and we have a growing sense that the Lord is inviting us to the Middle East — and part of me is terrified. we were both tempted to cut out the story from the song, as well as cut out the explanation from this post, because... well, it's messy. people tend not to like messy much. and also, there's no real-time resolution. people want resolution at the end of an episode, right?

so this week's installment is the song from Moses' dream, which he has entitled: A Family Feeling. Moses played his melody on keyboard (and all the parts on keys), Noah only played the banjo part, i hummed a few notes, and you'll hear some snippets from Momo telling me about his dream [update: we sent our subscribers an updated version of the song where we cut most of the talking out as Moses was plugging his ears cuz he didn't want to hear his speaking voice]. Moses is really quite delighted with how the song turned out, and we are really quite delighted with how he has grown musically over the last month!

we pray that God speaks to you through your dreams too...
